Infant care can be difficult especially considering it is during this stage that your child experiences peak brain development. With Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of West Allen, Texas your experience with your child’s development can be great. From birth, the brain develops in amazing ways. We have put together this piece to help you understand the way in which your infant’s brain is developing and how you can assist and enhance this process.
Birth –three months
The learning that takes place during the first three months of your child’s life will happen at an accelerated pace. Much of this learning is sensory and is based on your child’s need to touch and feel everything, plus an urge to place everything into the mouth. This is because the mouth and hands are the most sensitive parts of your child’s body at this time. Colorful contrasting toys can often help your child’s brain development during this time.
During this stage your child may not be completely mobile but will begin walking by age one. In this early period, your child will figure out the function of their legs and often use them to kick or prod objects nearby. While these kicks might be soft and uncoordinated, your child will be learning and developing many motor skills. The brain, eyes, and legs are all working together and developing seamlessly. Hang a mobile up above your child, and watch as he or she reaches toward it after a while.

The best learning environment is the key to nurturing brain development. This is why choosing the best child care facility is so important. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of West Allen we make use of the exclusive Brain Waves™ curriculum to give your child the best start in life.
Providing a loving and supportive environment, we combine educational toys with a variety of challenging activities. Together these aid in stimulating a child’s problem-solving abilities. Our qualified caregivers provide your child with personalized attention, for optimal learning and development. The first five years are absolutely essential to your child's learning success. Choosing our Learning Academy will greatly benefit your child’s development.
Here are a few facts on brain development in children:
- Brain growth: Your child’s brain becomes active in a specific sequence. Brain cells are stimulated into forming neural connections from a few weeks to around the age of five, making the first five years of life especially critical.
- Neurological connections: When stimulated through sensory interaction, your child’s brain forms around 800 neurological connections every second. These connections are the ones that your child will use to be successful academically, and to form healthy relationships.
- Repetition is important in learning: Your child learns and remembers lessons through repetition, helping to make new neural connections a strong and permanent part of the brain.
As part of our Brain Waves™ curriculum we include a wide range of stimulating group and individual activities. These aid in socializing your child and enhancing brain development. Activities that include sign language lessons, story time and exploring the outdoors will further strengthen brain development. All of our lessons are tailored to your child’s individual learning needs and capabilities, and offer an exceptional learning experience.

Occasionally, settling your infant down for the night can be troublesome.
- Create a restful bedtime environment: Establishing a peaceful and serene environment will aid in an easier transition to bedtime. A clutter-free nursery, calming colors, low lighting and relaxing music will help your infant peacefully drift off to sleep.
- Develop a bedtime routine: A warm bath, infant massage or cuddles in a rocking chair will encourage sleep. Using a consistent routine, the child will learn to associate these activities with bedtime. You can modify it for daytime naps.
- Daytime is for eating and playing: Infants are unaware of the difference between night and day. A regular routine will aid them in learning one from the other. Feedings, playtime and stimulation during the day will help your child sleep better at night. Child care experts advise not limiting household activity or light during daytime hours.
- Sounds to help sleep: Infants are often soothed by repetitive sounds that may help your child to fall asleep. A ticking clock, sounds of waves on a beach or even the sound of running water can be very effective.
- Comforting smells: Pleasant smells work well for calming infants at night. Introduce a variety of scents by placing a scented cloth in your child's room. Vanilla and lavender are often favorites. Be sure to keep any scented items far out of your child's reach.
Give your infant plenty of healthy daytime stimulation to help them sleep at night. Try a visit to beautiful Celebration Park, where there are picnic facilities and a walking trail that is stroller accessible.
